Mister Saturday Night releases: Archie Pelago – Clammy Customer EP & General Ludd – Are You Losing My Hearing? EP

Party, label, and all round music enthusiasts Mister Saturday Night added another 2 EPs to their roster of releases on Friday 24th July, with the return of two names who have had previous releases through MSN – Archie Pelago and General Ludd.

First off Archie Pelago – a jazz tinged outfit from Brooklyn consisting of three members Greg on cello, Zach on sax, and Dan playing trumpet. Their previous release through the label took the badge of being MSN002, as well as their debut EP in itself. The Clammy Customer EP finds a more developed sound coming from Archie Pelago after 3 years away from the label.

The title track – Clammy Customer – opens the EP and moves away from the more ‘traditional’ jazz of previous efforts for a dancefloor ready number. Second track Madame Suade Nightshade switches from the four down kicks to a shifted skip, taking up a more dubbed up stepped rhythm. Obligatory swirled horns jazz textures take their place in typical Archie P style.

Glasgow based pairing General Ludd return to MSN with their second release of 2015, and second on the label. The first on MSN – the ‘In The Fit Of Passion’ EP MSN009 – is a personal favourite with rip roaring track Woo Ha taking the a-side.

The new EP ‘Are You Losing My Hearing’ kicks off with the title track initially sounding like a Swamp 81-esque percussion stomper, before opening out with a listing synth to add some texture to the proceedings. The b-side sees the pairing take a more recognisable tilt on techno, somewhat similar to the style on their other EP of 2015 released in July on TenThousandYen – Rare Earth Metal.
