Floating Points announces debut album “Elaenia”

Floating Points announces his debut album ‘Elaenia’ via his own label Pluto on 6th November.

It has been a long time in the making and you’d be forgiven for thinking that Sam Shepherd is up to his third or fourth album by now. However ‘Elaenia’ is set to be Floating Points debut LP, after completing his PhD along with a string of recent release including ‘Nuits Sonores / Nectarines’ and ‘King Bromeliad / Montparnasse’, he is well set up for his debut album. As with most of Sam’s music, much like his DJ sets, the album takes inspiration from a wealth of genres and artists including jazz, latin, soul, funk, Brazilian and of course electronic music. This is set to be an album then, that brings together Shepherd’s past ten years in the music industry. Every DJ set he has played, track he has produced and artist he has discovered would seem to contribute in some small way as precursors to this. Its easy to see that every inch of Shepherd’s work is considered to a T, down to the artwork that he produced himself on a self-built Harmonograph that responds to sounds through fibre optic cables.

Announced via his Instagram yesterday afternoon, the album is set for release on 6th November. In contrast to his previous works, this album will not be released through Eglo Records, the label he co-founded with Alex Nut. ‘Elaenia’ is set for release through his own label ‘Pluto’, while David Byrne’s ‘Luaka Bop’ label will be releasing it in the US.
