The North London cultural institution kicks off 9 days of performance, panels, workshops and networking on Saturday the 11th of February for the seventh year in a row, and we for one encourage anyone with even a fleeting interest in all that is new and boundary pushing in 2017 to be in attendance. There are few places where you would be able to find as diverse a selection of exciting new live music anywhere, yet once again Roundhouse Rising Festival returns for 2017 with a carefully curated line up certain to both satisfy and intrigue. Scheduled from the 11th-19th of February, this year’s edition kicks off with Glaswegian four piece Catholic Action, followed by an afternoon industry takeover the next day with Urban Development Presents Grime 2.0, an opportunity for a detailed panel discussing with budding artist on the rise to prominence of urban genres in 2016, as well as an A&R surgery and industry showcase.
Sunday the 12th see’s the return of Little Simz to Roundhouse Rising, showcasing her immersive new project ‘Stillness In Wonderland’ with Welcome To Wonderland: The Experience, featuring performances with many of her collaborators and contemporaries including Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins, Tiffany Gouche, Nerija, and Simz’ own collective Space Age among others. The following week kicks off the BBC Music Introducing showcase on the 13th of February featuring Vant and Tom Greenan among others, presented by perennial tastemaker Huw Stephens. The week continues with an aural love letter to London on Valentine’s Day from Chloe Leigh & The Willow Tree & others, Roundhouse Resident Artists Edges, the genre being international extravaganza that is Rising Soundclash, and the four piece instrumental Hip hop collective SumoChief will be finishing off the week in style in association with Jazz re:freshed.
An undoubted highlight of the week is sure to be the Rising Sounds album launch party on Thursday 16th of February, showcasing the tracks created by the finest producers and unsigned artist that were asked to participate in the flagship project for this year. The evening will feature performances from Bristolian soul songstress ArA Harmonic, Roundhouse Resident Artist Malunga, and flourishing unsigned talents Sonny and Lovutta.
