Maryama – Where The Mermaids Are

Drifting between the boundaries of jazz and influences from her native Iran, Maryama has shared the video to her new track ‘Where The Mermaids Are’.

Maryama began her musical life while in Iran when studying guitar. Moving to the west coast of America, she studied jazz voice and music composition in Sacramento before moving onto Los Angeles to study in Fine Arts in Music Composition and Film Music. Maryama creates her sound from all of the different experiences and environments that she has absorbed, leaving a distinct style that feels like it would be comfortable in L.A as well as in Iran.

New single ‘Where The Mermaids Are’ graduates from a sparse snare and vocal line, building into a lush layer of harmonies floating over jazz positions on the piano and ‘verbed out melodies on the guitar. All building around Maryama’s vocals in centre stage. It’s a track that’s crying out for a remix from one of the usual suspects. Any takers?

Take a listen below the the new single and hear more over at Maryama’s Soundcloud.
