Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s latest release – ‘The Mosaic Of Transformation’ – continues the organically rhythmic and electronically driven sound of the artist and producers previous creative output, a sound that she has come to master.
The release is available for stream, purchase, and download on Bandcamp below or on Spotify.
Following the pattern of previous output, The Mosaic Of Transformation sees Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith once again visiting a more traditionally structured writing accompanied by strings and vocals as with the 2017 album, ‘The Kid’ – there’s even a pulsating kick in the track ‘The Steady Heart’.
In this instance, however, there seems to be a heightened sense of a meditative journey to the album. Successive tracks give room for gradual development similar to the 2019 ‘Tides: Music For Meditation and Yoga’ and the 2016 ‘FRKWYS Vol. 13: Sunergy’. As with all previous releases from Smith, the consistency shines throughout the album with every sound feeling like it is naturally occurring, in what is no doubt a skill for meticulous placement and feel for song development.
“I guess in one sentence, this album is my expression of love and appreciation for electricity,” says Smith, “the inspiration came to me in a sudden bubble of joy. It was accompanied by a multitude of shapes that were moving seamlessly from one into the other…My movement practice has been a constant transformation piece by piece. I made this album in the same way. Every day I would transform what I did yesterday…into something else. This album has gone through about 12 different versions of itself.”
Smith was due to support Caribou on an upcoming UK tour this summer/autumn, with dates in Leeds, Birmingham, London and most the other regular spots – details found here. The tour will also be hitting North America after the UK. Although purchasing tickets might be a little uncertain as things currently stand, it’s worth keeping tabs all the same!
